Andy's 5 top tips to future proof your business as you go into the post lockdown economic recovery:

1.How Green is Your Business?
Arrange to have your carbon footprint measured and certified. Big businesses (turnover greater than £36M per annum) have to do this now and will be asking their suppliers to identify their carbon footprint and explain what they are doing towards moving it to Net Zero Emissions. In time all businesses will need to do this.

2.Switch to a Green Energy Tariff
A couple of years ago the options were “go green or save money”. Now it is largely “go green and save money”. There are lots of great tariffs out there. Ask your broker to get some quotes when you are ready to renew your energy contract.

3.Reduce your energy consumption
Get an energy consultant to look at your business operations & premises and see what areas would achieve the greatest energy savings – simple things like converting your light fittings to LED bulbs can have an enormous impact. But it is always worth looking at your processes and see if these could improve the way you use energy.

4.Consider generating your own energy
Solar power, wind turbines and heat pumps don’t have to cost the earth (they will actually help you save the earth!) and if your business owns roof space or land then this can become a very economical alternative.

5.Migrate your fleet of cars and vans across to Electric Vehicles (EVs) or Hybrids as they are renewed
This market is really developing and the technology improving almost daily. By 2030 all cars and vans in the UK will be electric and that is only 9 years away! Speak to an electric vehicle specialist to see how this might work for your business.

If you want to know more about any of these areas, our team at AndySawers.com are ready to talk to you to see how you can benefit, with any obligation or upfront costs. Contact us at help@andysawers.com or call 0800 2987686 or 01452 855657

YOUR NAME -   ANDY SAWERS
NAME OF YOUR BUSINESS - ANDYSAWERS.COM
WEBSITE ADDRESS – www.ANDYSAWERS.COM

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS? –  I spent 24 years with the Lloyds Banking Group, rising through their management ranks from the lowest clerical rung, to the rather grand title of Senior Manager, Cheltenham. I have been running my current business in various guises since the end of 2002

WHAT MADE YOU START YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS? -  Corporate life was becoming less appealing. I was leading people to do things that I felt were not entirely right and I no longer wanted to be part of that. I vowed to myself that I would focus on building residual income for my family’s future. An opportunity came to leave on a generous voluntary severance package which had the added benefit of someone else keeping their job as they really did not want to leave at that time.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? – I love the great outdoors. Travel, walking, camping, running, football, rugby, cricket, cycling, body boarding, board games, canasta, quizzes. I am also having swimming lessons now so I can try competing in a triathlon!
My family and my Christian faith are very important to me. So, we love spending time together as a family and with a wide circle of friends.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE – “Shawshank Redemption” – the story of persistent daily actions to achieve your long-term goal. And for a great laugh “Hot Fuzz”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL? – Sirloin Steak (passed through a warm kitchen), pepper sauce, chips and mushrooms – but I am actually really adventurous with my food and when travelling always try some new local delicacy, especially if it includes fish

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE UK HOLIDAY DESTINATION? -  North Cornwall or North Devon coast lines for a bit of body boarding, walking and good food.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION ABROAD? – that is a tough question. Now Havana, Cuba. I love the big American Cars, the music, and the pace of life. However, we plan further travels to South America, Australia and New Zealand so that may well change

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TV PROGRAMME? – The “off” button

YOUR FAVOURITE SONG? – Endless possibilities but my family will always tell you something Glam Rock from the early Seventies – I’m always singing Slade’s “Merry Christmas” at the top of my voice (which is a bit painful for my audience) every year.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS? – Helping others to develop their own residual income or simply saving money on their expenses and having the freedom to manage my own time.

IF YOU HAD A MAGIC WAND WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS? Nothing other than stopping people trying to find the “catch” in how we can save people money!

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS TIME? Still being available to help other people. Travelling a bit more extensively once the current Corona virus crisis is behind us. It has taught me that I no longer need to be a slave to my home office.

DO YOU HAVE ANY USEFUL TIPS OR IDEAS THAT YOU COULD SHARE WITH THE OTHER CAP MEMBERS? – Use the best Cashback Card in the UK for all your personal expenditure

HOW HAS CAP BUSINESS CLUBS HELPED YOU IN YOUR BUSINESS? – I have only just started my CAP journey, but the fellow members are all incredibly supportive and friendly. I am already exploring working in partnership with two members
