SPOTLIGHT ON A CAP BUSINESS CLUB MEMBER.
YOU’RE NAME? - Ade Haines
NAME OF YOUR BUSINESS? - Artytype
WEBSITE ADDRESS? – www.artytype.co.uk
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS? – Worked as Senior Finished Artist and Studio Group Head at BrannDirect an ad agency in Cirencester doing mostly direct mail. I was responsible for the artwork team on Barclays Bank, Ford Commercial and Butlins accounts (among others). The agency employed around 200 people at the Cirencester site at that time and had offices in London, Edinburgh and Bristol.
WHAT MADE YOU START YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS? - The right opportunity at the right time. I’d always planned on being my own boss one day so when the chance to come back to the Forest and start up presented itself it was an easy decision. One I’ve never regretted either, despite a pay cut!
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? I played senior football for 27 years before a knee operation forced me onto a bike. I now enjoy cycling (road and MTB) and I have a growing collection of motorcycles, I like to read a bit too when I find a min.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE? At the moment probably Despicable Me but Bladerunner will always be cool.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL? Full English ( I agree with Paul, it takes a bit of beating)
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE UK HOLIDAY DESTINATION? Tenby
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION ABROAD? The Alps
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TV PROGRAMME? Have I got News for You
YOUR FAVOURITE SONG? Afterlife - Avenged Sevenfold
WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS? The diversity and variety of stuff we get asked to do. I feel very privileged to be able to make a living out of something I genuinely love to do. The dream ticket.
IF YOU HAD A MAGIC WAND WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
I’d move the Forest to the seaside, how good would that be?
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS TIME?
Hopefully still enjoying life and work. Maybe I’ll go teaching.
DO YOU HAVE ANY USEFUL TIPS OR IDEAS THAT YOU COULD SHARE WITH THE OTHER CAP MEMBERS? Don’t be a busy fool, there’s always someone who will do it cheaper. Don’t undervalue your own time (easy to say, a little harder to do) and don’t get dragged into a race to the bottom on cost. If someone is happy with a cheaper, inferior product then let them have it there’s no point in working for nothing. They’ll be back! Another good other piece of advice is always be honest - you don’t have to remember so much if you tell the truth. Finally, hang on to your sense of humour under any onslaught.
HOW HAS CAP BUSINESS CLUBS HELPED YOU IN YOUR BUSINESS?
It’s expanded my network and introduced me to some very interesting people.
Thank you Ade for spending some time answering these questions
- it's greatly appreciated.
